K2From Trusted Data to Trusted AI: Unlocking Enterprise Value with Db2 and IBM Data Integration
Tuesday September 29, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am BST
AI is creating new possibilities across every industry, but the enterprises that turn AI into real business value will have one major advantage: trusted access to the data that runs their business. For many of the world’s largest organizations, that data already lives in Db2, powering their most critical transactions across IBM Z and distributed environments. The opportunity isn’t to build yet another copy of that data somewhere else. It’s to unlock the value of the data you already have by bringing AI and analytics closer to where the data lives, reducing cost and complexity while accelerating access to insight.

Join IBM General Manager Priya Srinivasan and Distinguished Engineer & CTO IBM zData and AI Haakon Roberts as they share IBM’s vision for the future of Db2 and Data Integration. They’ll explore how Db2 for z/OS, Db2 LUW, and IBM Data Integration are evolving to help enterprises put their most valuable data to work across AI and analytics, from AI-powered database capabilities to real-time integration, streaming, and accelerated analytics. Learn how these capabilities can help you move faster, simplify your data architecture, and turn the data that powers your business into a competitive advantage.

D6 Permitting, masking and trusting, a deep dive into 3 new Db2 12.1 security features
Tuesday September 29, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am BST
This session is a deep dive into 3 new Db2 12.1 security features, Reduce file permissions, RCAC mask at read enhancements, and defining a Trusted Context using the new trust procedure and client callbacks. This will be a face paced session offering practical details on how to make use of these new features in more depth than a what's new session can cover. Reduced file permissions address the common concern of everyone having access to the db2diag.log (and others). Mask at read offers an alternative masking behaviour with fundamental changes to SQL behaviour. And Trust Procedures allow custom definitions of trust for determining a trusted connection.

E6 High Availability Q-replication in a heterogeneous Db2 HA environment
Tuesday September 29, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am BST
When using Q-replication in evironments with different Db2 HA configuraions like HADR and pureScale and even single server Db2 installations or Db2 z/Os all together, configuration of Q-replication can become quite complex, especially on pureScale when trying to integrate the capture and apply programs into the resource model.
In this presentraion we will go through a different approach and build a seperate HA cluster for the Q-replication environment. This approach simplifies the setup of Q-replicatation and makes the target and source Db2 environment trasnparent to the replication environment, and it works with all possible Db2 setups.
And the best part, if you use Q-replication and Db2 LUW, you already have all the needed parts for this setup.

E7 Why this query runs so slow? Step-by-step SQL troubleshooting with MON_GET interfaces and event monitors
Tuesday September 29, 2026 11:30am - 12:30pm BST
It is the classic DBA dilemma: the statistics are current, the access plan looks "clean" at first glance, yet the application is dragging. When the low-hanging fruit has been picked, how do you move from intuition to evidence-based troubleshooting?
This session follows a real-world "detective story" of a slow-running SQL statement originating from a Java (JDBC) application. We will move beyond basic EXPLAIN facility outputs to uncover the hidden bottlenecks that standard tools often miss. Using a step-by-step methodology, we will demonstrate how to:
- Capture the invisible: Isolate specific statements from the Package Cache and extract elusive parameter marker values.
- Leverage MON_GET: Use light-weight monitoring interfaces to identify where time is actually being spent (CPU vs. Wait times).
- Analyze the "Why": Utilize Activity Event Monitors and Section Actuals to compare estimated vs. actual cardinalities within a live execution.
- Apply Surgical Fixes: Explore advanced remediatio

F7 The Anatomy of Universal Tablespaces
Tuesday September 29, 2026 11:30am - 12:30pm BST
Universal Tablespaces (UTS) have been the strategic tablespace types for Db2 for z/OS since Version 9, effectively rendering legacy tablespaces obsolete. But what truly lies beneath the surface? Why has IBM designated UTS as the future of data storage?
In this session, we will place the Universal Tablespace on the operating table for a surgical comparison against legacy objects. We will examine the internal anatomy of Partition-by-Growth (PBG) and Partition-by-Range (PBR) tablespaces. By dissecting the underlying page structures, space map management, and segmentation logic, we will reveal exactly what makes UTS special.
Join us for a deep dive into the bits and bytes of Db2 storage to understand why the transition to UTS is not just a recommendation, but a necessity for modern database performance and management.

Tuesday September 29, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm BST
Many Db2 DBAs treat the z/OS Workload Manager (WLM) as "the system programmer’s problem," but WLM is actually the engine that determines if your SQL succeeds or fails. In this session, we will demystify WLM from a DBA’s perspective. We’ll cover the basics: defining service classes, importance, and goals. You will learn how WLM distinguishes between "local" work (like batch) and "remote" SQL (using enclaves), and why this matters for your daily performance monitoring. We’ll wrap up with simple best practices and a look at how to spot WLM issues before they become outages. Join this session to learn how to speak the language of WLM and ensure your Db2 workload gets the priority it deserves.

• AI for Human Productivity: A look into how next-generation AI-driven database management and automated optimization are transforming DBA workflows, slashing operational overhead, and turning complex troubleshooting into autonomous tuning.
• Cloud-Scale Data Ecosystems: How IBM continues to invest in cloud scale to ensure Db2 is omni-present across all hyper scalers.
• Quantum-Safe Cryptography: Why modern security requires acting now to combat "harvest now, decrypt later" threats, and how Db2’s native integration of GSKit 9, FIPS 140-3 compliance, and post-quantum algorithms (ML-KEM) secures data for decades to come.

Whether you are looking to accelerate your organization’s AI adoption, optimize massive hybrid-cloud topologies, or harden your data infrastructure against future cryptographic threats, this session will provide the strategic roadmap and practical technical foundation you need to build what’s next.

A9 Db2 zOS Utility Internals — and How to Get the Most Out of Them
Tuesday September 29, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm BST
Db2 utilities are fundamental to database availability, performance, and recoverability—yet many sites treat them as black boxes.
This session explores the internal behaviour of key Db2 z/OS utilities such as REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, and LOAD. We examine how these utilities interact with data, logging, locking, and system resources, and how understanding their internals helps DBAs run them more efficiently and safely.

Description:
How Db2 utilities really run
How Db2 utilities use buffer pools, logging, IRLM, and the catalogWhy utilities should be treated like normal Db2 work, not background jobs
REORG utility explained
What happens during each REORG phase: unload, sort, reload, rebuild, and switchHow REORG affects locking and loggingWhen REORG improves performance and when it provides little or no benefit
RUNSTATS and the optimizer
Difference between table statistics and index statisticsHow histograms and sampling influence query plansWhy the timing of RUNSTATS matters for access pa

D9 More SQL tricks with Db2
Tuesday September 29, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm BST
SQL is a very powerful language. But to make best use of it one has to come to a "set-oriented" thinking to solve problems instead of the procedural thinking most application programmers are used to. This presentation discusses some important problems for which a set-oriented solution is initially not obvious, and shows how solutions of these problems can be developed with SQL in Db2. This presentation is a continuation with new problems and solutions of the presentation "SQL tricks with Db2" shown at IDUG EMEA 2024.
