C10 Experiences with the AI Query Optimiser
Wednesday September 30, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am BST
Switching on the AI Query Optimiser in Db2 v12 is straightforward, but what do you do after you have switched it on? How do you confirm that it is doing what you want? How do you limit its execution to focus on just the tables you need and want? How do you confirm that it is having a positive effect? How do you manage the resources that it uses?
This presentation recounts some of the tricks, pitfalls and gotchas encountered in actual customer implementations of the AI Query Optimiser.

D10 Make you data comparable by VECTORizing
Wednesday September 30, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am BST
Based on the VECTOR data type, that came with Db2 12.1, your data can easily be put in definnable context by using similarities. This can help identifying correlations where exact values would make it too complicated. As a relational model typically is based on direct comparability of values only, vector usage can provide some extra level of data linking. With an example shown in a live demo, this session will show step by step, how to implement vector usage in your data to provide additional analytical features.

A11 From Pay Slips to P1 Incidents: Db2 for z/OS in a Payroll Company
Wednesday September 30, 2026 11:30am - 12:30pm BST
In this session, I provide an inside look at how Db2 is used, operated, and evolved within SD Worx, a payroll/HR service provider, running running a mixed COBOL and .NET application landscape.
The presentation walks through the Db2 environment at SD Worx and illustrates real-world production workloads (with its struggles). We'll explore trends in Db2 growth, the impact of data integration (including the migration from IDMS), and how replication technologies are used to offload reporting, analytics, and decentral processing without impacting core workloads.
Special attention is given to Db2 Connect and connection management challenges in distributed .NET environments. Including real‑world P1 incidents (don't trust your distributed teams blindly!) and how to avoid them using Db2 Profiles, driver configuration and monitoring.Db2 Profiles are also used to regain control over legacy clients and get rid of the soon to be deprecated (and this time for real!) synonyms, which will be explained

F11 SQL Oldies but Goodies and the Power of the SQL Rewrite
Wednesday September 30, 2026 11:30am - 12:30pm BST
There have been so many enhancements in Db2 SQL for developers in the last 3 or 4 versions that many developers have never really taken advantage of. This presentation picks my personal favorites that I believe all developers should get knowledgeable on and possibly applied to current and future applications. Developers should be informed of all of newer features in Db2 and this presentation is a great summary for this topic. When it comes to performance, often times the answer to better performance is rewriting queries different ways, and redesigning programs differently. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of some great SQL enhancements, application table designs, along with getting stronger in the SQL language. This is a great session for developers on Db2 LUW or Db2 z/OS. Developers 'Get Empowered'.

B12 Db2 critical events monitoring
Wednesday September 30, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm BST
Db2 for z/OS environments generate thousands of system messages and codes every day, only a small subset of which indicate truly critical conditions. This session focuses on how Db2 DBAs can effectively identify, interpret, and respond to critical events that threaten system availability, data integrity, resource consumption, and security. Starting from the structure and meaning of Db2 messages, reason codes, and return codes, the presentation walks through real-world scenarios such as log space exhaustion, storage shortages, dataset access failures, and recovery-related errors. Attendees will learn how to distinguish symptoms from root causes and how timely detection can prevent hangs, outages, and data loss. The session emphasizes a proactive monitoring and troubleshooting approach based on SYSLOG and Db2 address space analysis. It is aimed at Db2 DBAs who want to strengthen operational resilience, improve incident response, and consistently meet SLA and recovery objectives.

F12 Hidden in Plain Sight: Unlocking Db2 for z/OS Recovery Capabilities at NatWest
Wednesday September 30, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm BST
In 2025, NatWest undertook a comprehensive reassessment of its Db2 recovery strategy to align with evolving banking regulations and to take advantage of modern platform capabilities. This review aimed to uncover limitations in existing processes, improve operational performance, and strengthen compliance.
As part of this effort, the bank evaluated Db2 utility features and automation tools that could streamline recovery activities, enforce consistent best‑practice standards, and reduce the need for continual manual tuning of utility options. Future resilience was also a priority, with the strategy designed to support NatWest’s planned adoption of Cyber Vault technology.
This session explores the challenges encountered throughout the transformation, the solutions implemented to overcome them, and the best practices that emerged—highlighting how NatWest is modernising its Db2 recovery landscape while preparing for the future.

D13 Db2 LUW Table Partition Management
Wednesday September 30, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm BST
Db2 LUW provides the capability to create partitioned tables which have a number of useful benefits. However, a current downside to the implementation on LUW is that there is no automatic built-in functionality to add partitions when needed or manage the process of adding, detaching and deleting partitions. In particular, for Production environments that require stability and availability without interruption, robust and auditable management of partitions is a critical and invaluable requirement.
In this session I will provide an overview of the design and implementation of a bespoke Unix based solution used in a high volume 24/7 transactional and warehouse database application. The presentation will include an explanation of the requirements to manage table partitions in a Production environment and will include high level diagrams of the process flow to manage the partitions; the logic to identify required partitions/timestamps to manipulate, the required commands to make changes,

E13 Efficient Scans on Columnar Tables
Wednesday September 30, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm BST
It often makes sense for analytical applications to store the data in column organized tables instead of row organized tables to get better performance. Especially scans on column organized tables are different from scans on row organized tables. This presentation investigates these differences. One major difference is the usage of Synopsis tables to speed up scans. Therefore, we will look in depth at how Synopsis tables work, how one can check Synopsis tables e.g., with SQL statements, and how one can ensure to get "good" Synopis tables, i.e., Synopsis tables which allow the elimination of unneccesary page accesses during the scans of important queries.
